Matthew McConaughey Says How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Is ‘Teed Up’ for a Sequel

Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson were romantic comedy gold in 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. And get this: McConaughey is down for a sequel.

Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but when asked on E!’s Daily Pop if there could be a sequel to the beloved film, he said, “Possibly.”

“I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel,” McConaughey said, according to People. “And that was a really good one. As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one.

“And it lasts!” the actor continued. “People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit.”

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, for the uninitiated, centers on a magazine journalist, Andie (Hudson), who pitches a story in which she has to drive a man away using classic “clingy girlfriend” tactics, like crashing a guys’ poker night and talking about weddings. The dude she picks is named Ben (McConaughey), an advertising executive, but he isn’t so easily rattled. Why? He himself made a bet with coworkers that he could get a woman to fall in love with him in 10 days. So he’ll do whatever it takes to stay with Andy—even though she’s actively trying to drive him away.

It’s a charming, hilarious rom-com filled with hijinks that have become pop culture canon. The love fern! Princess Sophia! The Celine Dion concert! It’s all so good.

Matthew McConaughey isn’t the only one who has indulged the idea of a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel. Hudson talked about it in a recent interview with Elle.

“I’ve always thought about what Matthew and I’s characters would be now, if we were still together,” she said. “It’s actually probably a good amount of time [that has passed] to make a movie about it. We probably would have gotten married with kids. We’re probably miserable right now!”

Miserable or not, I’d certainly like to see where Andy and Ben are in 2020. And I know I’m not alone.
